An Ode to Silence
An ode to Silence;
To the comfortable spaces between sentences
The necessary pauses between words
The suspenseful waits between conversations
The velvety nothingness that awaits the next syllable.
To Stillness;
To the seconds after the last note is played
And the final key struck
To the reflection after the applause
Meditation filling the vacuum of sound.
To Tranquillity;
The moment after accomplishment
And before the “what next?”
And between the what ifs.
To Quiet;
The moments after the echoes
And before the noise
Folded between soft sheets of inaudibility.
Some of this language in the poem is absolutely delicious... I don't know how else to put it. "The velvety nothingness that awaits the next syllable." Wow. I love the rich descriptions. In revisions, I would look out for abstractions. You are so talented at descriptive language-- I would love to read how you would describe "acomplishment" or "meditation".
